Lesson Plans- Elementary Placement
Falling Leaves
In this lesson, students investigate bi-lateral symmetry, approximate realism, and resist techniques. After cutting a leaf in half and gluing it down, students recreated the other half of the leaf and colored it realistically. The students also planned a landscape background with crayons and watercolor, creating a resist technique.

Germ Invasion
Using the parts of a bacteria, students designed their own germs! Starting with practice paper, the students planned out their germ's body, the symptoms it causes, gave it a name, and experimented with analogous color schemes. Through expression, color, and naming their germ, students practiced storytelling through their art.

Topographic Adventure
In this Topographic Maps lesson, students transferred prior knowledge of how to read maps to learn how to read, and then create, a topographic map. Using a split compliment color scheme and contour lines students created a three-dimensional topographic map of a mountain. Students had to calculate the rise in elevation on their mountain and correctly label it in true map style. Students also worked with group members to create a story about their mountains.
