Section I

Education 450 was a great and gratifying experience. I had the opportunity to work with a teacher who had a very different style from myself but I learned so much. I got amazing feedback and can tell I grew so much just this semester, though I know I still have a ways to go.

Some things that went well this semester were definitely relationships with students. I got to know almost all my students very well even though I was only with them a couple times a week, at the end of my time with them I had about 6 kids tell me that I impacted them and they loved working with me this semester. It's very reaffirming to know that I am making these connections at such an early stage in my career. Another thing that went well were the three different perspectives I got throughout the semester from Chris, Elaine, and Allison, all exceptional teachers, and all very different. Also, as far as content goes, I learned a lot of different ways to deliver skills based instruction, which is an imperative part of art instruction, between y own trial and error in teaching embroidery and watching Allison introduce many projects I have many examples to work from.

In making this transition from student to teacher, Elaine and Chris simply starting class with “You are a teacher” was a big deal. I was also blessed that my cooperative teacher was willing to let me take the rains and teach my own lesson for a couple of weeks. That in addition to my students treating me like the real teacher of the class was a big part of that transition.
